Bright minds have always dealt with the subject of light. Even though it is said that the light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison, scientists and in- ventors were already researching the use of electrical light in the early 19 th century. Although the first patents for light bulbs were awarded in 1841 already, Edison permitted their practical use and mass production in 1880. The combination of light and design was and remains one of the most exciting developments. While light sources used to be mostly based on a purely practical use, designers and architects were soon inspired by the subject of lighting. These designed pieces still serve as examples and are exhibited in museums around the world - including those for modern art. However, these refined light objects were reserved for the wealthy parts of society. The broad masses had to make do with much more cost-efficient and simpler luminaires. We at EGLO have found a place in the history of light that has enabled us to grow continually for about 50 years. „Contemporary design, coupled with high function at affordable prices“ – that was and remains our mot- to. Always keeping in touch with the pulse of the time, we develop and produce products that are based on the current needs of our customers. At the moment, one of our main focuses is the subject of Smart Lighting and bringing light and luminaires into a digitally linked and easily controllable form. No matter what the future will bring in terms of light, we will continue to bring contemporary lighting solutions for all areas of life from Tyrol into the entire world.

Decisiveness, stubbornness and continuous further development: These are the basic pillars on which our company is permanently built. About 50 years ago, founder Ludwig Obwieser gave his companies these very attri- butes. That way, he started a story of success that we not only celebrate, but that we can be proud of today. The development of EGLO was and re- mains a rapid one: From the employee numbers to turnover development, to production sites and sales companies around the globe: The growth rates are far above those of the market. In order to make sure that EGLO will continue to grow healthily in future, business development is driven with a high sustainability. The first secret of success is the fact that EGLO continues to be a fami- ly-owned company and therefore is able to act independently. The control of development, production and logistics was another factor of success from the beginning. Far-sightedness plays an important role as well in the corporate history of about 50 years: EGLO is ahead of its time, a bit closer to the customers, observing market developments more precisely, deve- loping and producing products more quickly and making decisions more dynamically. Then, as well as now, we are looking for proximity to our cus- tomers. We listen to them in order to understand them, support and help them. Our headcount has nearly doubled in 10 years (from 2007 to 2017). The number of companies in the EGLO Sales Group grew five-fold in 20 years (1997 to 2017).

IMAGINATION DETERMINES DEVELOPMENT
Enter the number 1969 – the founding year of EGLO – into a search en- gine. You will find that it was a very busy year: America celebrated Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon. The first heart transplant was per- formed in Germany, Concorde went on its virgin flight in France and Arpa- net, the precursor of the internet, went online. All of these events shared one common factor: The idea of developing and doing things that had never been done before. This is the pioneering mood in which EGLO was founded. It is the spirit the company has preserved to this day.

AROUND THE WORLD FROM TYROL. OUR GLOBALLY REGIONAL UNDERSTANDING... „Around the world from Tyrol“ rather sounds like Tourism. The globalisa- tion of EGLO started out in the 1980s and 1990s and makes us what we are today: One of the leading producer of decorative living room luminaires worldwide. 300 employees in Tyrol ensure that we design, produce, deliver and sell world-wide. From Product management to marketing, controlling and to logistics, the headquarters control all essential processes from Aus- tria. We employ 4,700 people around the world. The lion’s share of the complete product range is produced in our produc- tion sites in Hungary, China and India. We produce an impressive number of 80,000 luminaires per day. They find their way into the living rooms of our customers through our global network of warehouses, sales compa- nies and partners. About 70 EGLO business units take care of sales, service and some regional marketing locally in more than 50 countries around the world. Despite progressing internationalisation and globalisation, we are and remain a family-owned company with Tyrolean roots. As networking increases and different regional needs grow „Think global – act local“ turns into „Ask local – act global“. Customers belong to a regional culture and have diffe- rent needs, even if they act and buy globally. Connecting these two worlds and harmonising them is one of our most important efforts.
One EGLO article is produced every second. This corresponds to a quantity of 80,000 products per day, and 21 million items per year.

In the last year alone, more than 900 new products were launched into the market. The current product range comprises more than 4,000 items. Every day, we produce 80,000 luminaires that find their way to customers around the world. Even we find these figures impressive every time we see them. However, it is much more important how we see people and light. Fine tuned senses, an open ear and far-sightedness are all needed to understand what our customers want to see and experience in their own living spaces in the fu- ture. Trend scouts must indicate a direction. We continually observe light- ing, residential and living developments, take up creative impulses from various areas and examine streams for their trend potential. These „ingredients“ turn into product ideas that we thoroughly test both emotionally and technically before they are brought to life. As one of the leading manufacturers of decorative lighting, we also deal with optimal product presentation. Indoor or outdoor lighting, living room classics or modern design luminaires, LED or solar, warm light or daylight - all luminai- res must shine in the best light. Our decades of experience ensure perfect presentation of our luminaires through the design of the showrooms and POS solutions, as well as in consulting.
EGLO develops a new product nearly every 2 hours. This means nearly 4 new products per working day.

Whether people are comfortable in their homes or not depends, among other things, on the lighting. Since light is an important factor for our mental well-being, optimised use of lighting positively influences people’s mood. Current surveys on this subject confirm this physical and emotional improvement of mood. EGLO tackles this subject and deals with the effects of lighting in its re- search labs around the world. We want to develop the right light for living areas around the world.

UNDERSTANDING AND TRUST AS A BASIS. CUSTOMERS, PARTNERS, EMPLOYEES, ENVIRONMENT… EGLO‘s rapid growth was and remains a challenge for our organisation. Our globally regional understanding and the fact that EGLO is still family- owned and will remain so will help us master this challenge. We consider size to be a strength only if things work in parallel on a small scale too. For this reason, proximity is indispensable for us: We need to be close to our customers, our partners and our employees. Only in perfectly organised and closely connected units can we manage and develop 4,700 employees around the world. Another interesting aspect of our organisation’s philosophy refers to con- sistent support of our partners. Just as for the consumers, we continually ask ourselves: „What should and what can we offer? Where is our expe- rience needed? What do our employees expect and what are our own de- mands?“ We want to understand the other party’s needs and find a shared path to success. This way, partnerships are created that will be preserved for decades. This culture is not only part of our organisation, but our per- sonal statement to everyone who works with us. Logistics play a decisive role in our organisation. All the effort would be in vain if the goods weren‘t in the right place at the right time and in the right amount. This is why we continually invest in optimising our production and supply chain. We perfect processes, build new warehouses and make small refinements that make a big difference. Our 1-stop-logistics are only one result of this, but they may be the most central one.
Our 68 sales organisations are located in countries, which together make up 60% of the world’s total population. EGLO products are therefore available to the vast majority of the population.
