I am always surprised to find that the Internet is stre- amlining my property – but I also need a lot of acces- sories for that. Everywhere it is propagated that digitisation offers great opportunities for people and companies. How- ever, I would like to point out that the opportunities are accompanied by major challenges: For example, how do you find a compromise between my 10-year- old daughter's view and my “reasonable” user expec- tations for YouTube, Facebook, etc.? It is clear that much about digitisation is wonderful. There's more room on the shelves now. CDs, DVDs and books can be disposed of in boxes. The Duden, street maps, huge dictionaries – all gone. The EU Commission's Digitisation Index 2017 sums it up– for Austria to point 0.57. This is 10th place among 28 EU countries. The Scandinavian coun- tries are the leaders. Austria ranks 14th in the inte- gration of “digital technology” with e-commerce – a decline of four places from 2016 to 2017. This is precisely where we as the EGLO Group want to take an intensive approach and have essential and promising projects in planning and implementation in various areas of the company.
Light should be “changeable” – during the day, at night, depending on the season. Not only new lu- minaires are important for retailers, but increasingly new control technologies and innovative concepts. This means that digitisation extends the benefits of luminaires for our customers. If you read this issue, we are already moving into the last quarter of the year. There are still many important projects to work on and successfully complete.
In order to market our luminaires perfectly, we produce a large number of catalogues, brochures, flyers and other printed materials every year. Sometimes it would be nice just to press a button... “Catalogue design” or “make it especially nice”. This button hasn't been invented yet. The catalogue creation process is still very complex. The flow of information and cooperation with internal and external partners must be perfectly coordinated. It takes a lot of organisational talent, creativity, commitment and nerves of steel to be able to produce our print products.
As with product development, there are also several project phases in catalogue creation, which we would like to bring closer to you:
Retusche › What product information is required? › Are there new functions that need to be explained? Photography › Are product samples available? › Do special functions/details have to be photographed? Druck
At the beginning, the basic information for creating the catalogue is defined. The following questions need to be answered: Strategy › Who is the target group? B2B or B2C? › Which languages does the catalogue contain? › Which articles are presented? › How high is the circulation? › Is all required information available in the PIM? › When should the catalogue be published? Layout › What should the catalogue look like? › Which categories should the catalogue be divided into? Setzen
Once the central key data has been defined, the actual catalogue creation can begin. First, the catalogue structure is created and where which texts, images, etc. go is determined. Texts that we require in several languages are sent to an external translation agency.
EVENTS EGLO KNOW-HOW
sizes of the images and the sketches are adjusted, dimensions are added and all information and entry pages are set up manually. The catalogue is created step by step.
In-house product images are then taken of all articles that appear in the catalogue. Since many innovations are still in the conception phase and are therefore not yet in stock, hand samples have to be photographed in some cases. If there are no hand samples yet, our graphic designers have to use renderings – digitally created product images – and use them as placeholders in the meantime. All articles, of which ambient images are also planned, are sent to an external photo studio in Germany. In order to recreate the effect of our products as realistically as possible, a room is built there for each individual luminaire or luminaire series and decorated according to our ideas.
One of the most complex and important phases is the correction phase. The individual catalogue sheets are printed out and put through their paces by a selected team of internal specialists. If content or images are incorrect or information is missing, it must be edited again. Often several correction runs are required until the final catalogue version.
After the final print data has been released, it is sent to the print shop (orders are placed during the catalogue creation phase). At the same time, the online version of the catalogue is posted on the EGLO website. After delivery, the catalogues are put away, distributed in- house and assigned to the individual sales companies on the basis of the order quantities.
Once the images have been created, editing can begin. All individual images are exempted (by external skilled workers), i.e. freed from the “disturbing” background. Ambience images – even if they were developed with a lot of effort and in high quality – have to be reworked in-house. For example, some colours are corrected, exposure is optimised and unsightly backgrounds are retouched.
Layout and composition
In the next step, the graphic designers connect the prepared programming templates with all data from our PIM system, the product and ambience images and all other necessary data. You place them in the correct position on the prepared sample pages. The

EGLO.com dedusted Spring cleaning
Sometimes it doesn't have to be a complete conversion. Often a new shelf, a new luminaire or a fresh coat of paint makes a difference – as with our company website. With about 174,000 visits per month , eglo.com is an important contact point for business and private customers alike. And it deserves spring cleaning after many years of use. The fresh wall painting, in this case the renewal of elements such as fonts, headlines, backgrounds, images and the like.
The new shelf creates order. In our case, we improved user guidance: Double navigation points were dismissed, a “sticky navigation” was introduced. The main navigation “sticks” at the top of the page and helps the user to orientate himself easily, even if he scrolls down. The new luminaire provides visibility and sets the stage for things. This is what we do on the homepage by using the main advertising space to not only welcome the customer nicely, but to guide him and to give an insight into our product world and current topics. This is a first step towards improving our external perception. But the site does not fall into a Sleeping Beauty sleep, we have planned many more improvements and keep you informed.
EGLO Dealer Portal online Good things take time
We have already been talking about the EGLO Dealer Portal for some time. We are thus especially pleased that our teamwas able to move a lot after taking over the project and that we are now – country by country – going online with the portal.
In the first step, we provide our customers with two functions in the dealer portal:
The B2B online shop
The data download
The basic idea: Very easy ordering, so that our customers can get to their goods even faster. The advantages for our customers: › Ordering, independent of office hours › Viewing product availability online › Saving of orders for easy reordering at a later date
Our luminaires are with the customer and he wants to market them? He can download everything about the luminaire for his personal assortment in the portal:
› Product photos › Instruction manuals › EEI labels › Material master data › Technical data sheets
Lisa-Maria Mayer, Technical Project Management Dealer Portal “How much effort is involved in getting such a portal up and running is difficult for a user to understand – and that's a good thing. Because the customer should have it as simple as possible, that is our highest credo. How functions are actually implemented depends on the desire for usability, the technical limits, the budget and the time available. To define this, schedule it for programming and test it afterwards, that is my job. The fact that customers can now use the service is the reward for many hours of hard work.”
Work that affects many people: Our SAP team as well as our external programmers are challenged here. And finally, of course, our colleagues in the sales offices. With their active support we are now online in Austria, Germany and the Netherlands.
Martin Swart, Key Account Manager Online Customers EGLO NL “We are pleased that we were one of the first sales companies to go online with the project. Of course, this means a change in certain work processes and also requires a great deal of effort on our part. But we see the long-term benefit: Online orders not only help our customers, they will also relieve EGLO internally. So we have time that we urgently need for other tasks.”
Every country has its needs. For example, we coordinate with the country managers at the start of the project and adapt the system according to requirements and possibilities. Italy, Portugal and Spain are the next countries in the starting blocks.
Americo Vieira, General Manager EGLO Portugal and Spain “We have already started with the project kickoff and are very excited about the first results, as we hope to find a relief in our daily work, while at the same time using a powerful communication tool that provides the customer with important product information from data download to stock availability with just a few clicks. We will work hard to get the portal up and running as soon as possible.”
In addition to customer benefits, however, there are also new internal organizational opportunities..
We are gradually making the portal available to all countries and will continue to expand and adapt it in order to stay up-to-date with this project.

TIP TOP The new EGLO Shop
During the implementation of the new EGLO Shop, “wood was put behind the arrow”. Thus the first basic ideas and sketches emerged at the beginning of May – the final plan was ready in mid-May. The entire conversion of the 800 m² retail space was completed in just 4 weeks, two weeks of which were in parallel with the open shop – a special challenge for both the shop staff and the POS team. Customers were kept in a good mood with strong bargain prices during the construction site phase and today enjoy the 2,000 products on display in the new EGLO Shop. From the ceiling, the shop fitting, the electrical installations to the entire entrance area, everything appears in a whole new light.
› Larger product range › Customer-friendly classification of products › Own areas for product groups › More open and friendly design › Comfortable seating area for customers
As the 2017 training programme was very well received by employees, EGLO, has put a varied course programme for 2018 as well. Some courses have already taken place. To what extent one could benefit from it, the participants summarize in short statements:
Social competence in the project team In this seminar the importance of the environment of a project was pointed out, in order to be able to handle this trouble-free. “All in all, a very valuable day of seminars. The lecturer knew a lot from his rich personal experience with project teams to report. But above all through the role plays and the subsequent analysis, everyone could reflect on their own role in the team and certainly take a lot with them for everyday work." Time and self management In this workshop, the participants learned how to focus their own potentials, take greater personal responsibility and make optimum use of the available time through personal, effective and efficient working techniques. “The trainer seemed sympathetic and well-trained, and the program also had a very good balance between theory and practice. I was able to take some things out of the course both for the company and at home. Should there be the possibility to attend this course again next year, I can only recommend it to everyone." Andreas Hackstock
The Management Battery The course teaches methods and techniques that minimize energy loss and maximize performance. So that you still have enough motivation and power in your private life to achieve your goals. “The course was very informative and dealt with everyday issues/problems that affect everyone, no matter from which area. The course instructor provided many practical examples in which the participants immediately found themselves. Solutions to problems and many tips for everyday life rounded off the course very well.”
Refresher First Aid Course The aim of this course was to learn the most important first aid measures. “Exactly the right mixture of theory and practice to refresh some outdated knowledge. In addition, many interesting new things could be communicated.”
The success of our apprentices
As every year, EGLO apprentices from the 3rd year of training participated in the Tyrol Skills – Apprentices Competition. After the qualification at the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, the tasks were: to plan an open day including a list of costs in the training company, to create a creative photo of the workplace as well as an application folder. On 27th of June our apprentices had to face the jury at the WIFI Innsbruck and conduct an interview as well as present the event with Power Point. They had to take care of entertainment, supporting programme, catering etc. As an idea for the culinary catering they had planned the right now topical “Food trucks”.
Both tasks were very well received by the jury, as the list of results of the competition shows. Sarah Lieb and Anna-Maria Schößer won the state apprentice competition ex aequo. Sarah and Anna-Maria also passed the final class of the vocational school and their final apprenticeship examination with distinction. Our six apprentices in their first and second year of training have also successfully completed vocational school. Four of them had an excellent school record and two had a good record.

Light + Building 2018 More sea of lights? Not possible – really not.
Among them – EGLO Leuchten – with the first two-storey booth design. In a preparation time of more than one year, the trade fair team developed the perfect placement of 900 new products on a presentation area of 444m². 171 international EGLO employees used the fair as an opportunity to exchange information, maintain customer relations and make new contacts. 220.000 trade visitors from 177 different countries – a perfect opportunity not to be missed as a renowned manufacturer of decorative domestic luminaires. This year's focus was on the field of networked building and security technology, also known as Smart Lighting. The trend at our EGLO stand was highlighted with an interactive highlight corner on the subject of EGLO connect.
I look to the left – animated business talks, tireless employees, satisfied faces, searching looks, interested visitors. My head swings to the right – languages from all over the world, detailed product questions, relaxed laughter and a request addressed to me – “May I talk to a salesman? I am very interested in the assortment of EGLO” – My first appearance at the Light + Building 2018 – overwhelmed by the continuous stream of visitors, the variety of new products and the seemingly endless exhibition halls. It is no coincidence that the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre is the venue for the world's leading trade fair for lighting and building technology. 2,714 exhibitors from 55 countries presented their world firsts on 88 football pitches.
Save the Date: Light + Building 8 th - 13 th of March 2020
Light + Building 2018 Our four product highlights:
EGLO connect, talk to the lighting
With the new Smart Plug you can design smart lighting and connect it to other devices. It does not matter whether it is an old light or a coffee machine. The devices can be activated and deactivated using the Smart Plug, the familiar app, the remote control or the programmable time control. The current consumption is documented with an additional current measurement function. In addition, the Smart Plug Plus makes it possible to control all connect devices from outside or to use the voice control ALEXA. The new VALBIANO spot series impresses with a modern, elegant look and conjures up a cosy ambience in every living room. The straight textile shade sits enthroned on a rectilinear and colour- coordinated arm and canopy, which cancel out the dynamics of the shade and ensure a rounded overall appearance. The series creates cosiness and individuality. In addition, the adjustable spot heads provide perfect light for every living situation. VALBIANO, the cosy light for every living situation
ADRI, the special classic
The luminaire is classic without being boring. Depending on taste, the luminaire can be individually designed with different light sources. The trend combinations of grey-rose gold and white-matt gold make the luminaire an adaptable eye-catcher that adapts to any environment but still stands out.
TOWNSHEND, the cult eye-catcher
Who doesn't know it – the cult photo “Lunch break on a skyscraper”, which shows workers sitting on a steel beam. With the TOWNSHEND 4 you can easily bring the New York flair home. The luminaire with the steel beam in industrial design gives every room a trendy loft feeling. For those who like it more romantic, the pendant luminaire of the successful series TOWNSHEND has been extended with textile shades and white patinated wooden beams in country house style.
Team product management
Customers obviously felt at home during the EGLO Light Days at the Pill site. On the canteen terrace one or the other selfie was shot in the mountain panorama, there was a lot of laughter, drinks were served and above all a lot of products were bought. The sales target was achieved thanks to the motivated and convincing representatives of 19 different sales companies. We took care of a pleasant procedure relating to the special article presentation in the incoming goods department and the showroom tours with 600 new products. “On the HIGHWAY to PILL” The EGLO Light Days 2018
For the first time, we invited EGLO customers to the evening event in a beautifully situated hotel in Gnadenwald – the Speckbacherhof. A perfect location for a harmonious conclusion to the EGLO Light Days. In addition to Tyrolean delicacies, the well-known artist Markus Linder provided for laughter with an EGLO-tailored interlude and a party band for lively dance interludes. Both musicians and international guests took advantage of the opportunity to jam and dance together.
“A total of 2,893 positions were ordered during the two days of the event. With 24 hours of preparatory work, such as label gluing, article alignment, etc., we were, as every year, well prepared

They visited us not only because of the shopping opportunities or the showroom innovations, but also because of the pleasant atmosphere created by the EGLO team and enjoyed the quiet and relaxed Tyrolean landscape during this time. On the last day we visited Innsbruck. When we wanted to come back to the party in a car, our customer Vincenzo Frenna from Sicily entered the address of the head office instead of the address of the hotel in the navigation system. Two hours later Vincenzo arrived at the hotel. Now our Sicilian customer knows the beautiful Inn Valley at sunset better than any other Italian customer. For the other Sicilian customers it was funny to mock Vencenzo's driving skills in Tyrol.”
Ekrema Duranovic Sales Special Promo
“More than 50 people from the Czech Republic and Slovakia made their way to the EGLO Light Days in Pill. Although the course of the event was already known to the participants, everyone was again very much looking forward to the programme. The selection of stocklots was very broad – an important factor in meeting the sales target. During the Light Days we were also able to show our customers the latest products and the feedback was extremely positive.

A normal working day as EGLO frontman, Norway
Northernmost Europe, for most of us far away, is considered a place for beautiful natural landscapes, whales, bears and other rather exotic species. An even more unique species is Mr. Oyvind Jensen, our salesman in the far north, who covers a sales area in northern Norway. The distance from south to north is almost 2,800 kilometres by road, and as part of the EGLO Norway / Elektro Armatur sales team he is doing a great job. Oyvind works closely with a large number of independent, professional lighting retailers and supplies them with suitable and well-sold products from the EGLO range. He started in 1989 and has now been in the lighting industry for 30 years. The distance he has travelled in the course of his journey is comparable to almost six times circumnavigating the equator. A normal sales tour lasts several weeks, in which he often does not come home in between. The geographical characteristics of this region with its long serpentines, deep fjords and mighty mountains paired with some islands along the Atlantic coast are a challenge even for him. Nevertheless, this region needs light, especially during the darker winter months, in which the inhabitants have hardly any daylight. This is where EGLO and Oyvind come in.
Oyvind's sales area begins south of Ålesund and extends to the Russian border, east of Kirkenes in the north, across the Arctic Circle halfway to the Arctic. An impressive area covered by an impressive EGLO frontman. He was tied to his home and yet he travelled a lot. Oyvind solved the problem with a home that's not tied down. One he can always have with him, like a snail in her house: His mobile home and office are powered by a stable MAN engine. The ideal solution for a faithful EGLO and luminaire soul and a real star of light!
Showroom openings, Colombia
its glory. Some customers even came from Santa Marta (approx. 100 km) and Cartagena (approx. 120 km) to admire the products on approx. 400m 2 . An architect expressed his opinion during a shopping tour as follows: “That was just what was needed in Barranquilla.”
On 2nd of March 2018, the new EGLO showroom in Medellin was opened with almost 1000 different luminaires. The showroom has an exhibition area of approx. 300m 2 and an additional storage area of 100m 2 . Medellin is Colombia's second largest city with a population of 2.6 million people (including peripheral areas of almost 4 million).
The new “Autonorte” showroom north of Bogotá was opened from the 18 th to the 21 st of August 2017. The more than 2,000m 2 large area has an exhibition area of 800m 2 as well as offices and the central warehouse of EGLO Colombia. In addition, the “Autonorte” motorway runs from the centre of Bogota to the north, crossing the most prosperous districts and various suburbs of the capital.
The showroom in Barranquilla was opened on 3rd of November 2017 with a shopping night.
For three days it was possible to hunt offers and bargains. Thanks to EGLO luminaires, the beautiful building in the heart of Barranquilla shines in all
„Lightovation International Lighting Show“, USA
EGLO USA, in partnership with EGLO Canada, has set up a showroom in the market centre in Dallas (Texas) as part of the half-yearly “Lightovation Inter- national Lighting Show”. Although the showrooms are not open to the public, they allow customers of many lighting brands to get to know new products and see them “live” to make purchasing decisions for their specific markets. In the January show, EGLO USA launched a new line of vintage articles specially designed for American customers. These new luminaires will complement the existing, contemporary EGLO range. In addition, they will reach a broader line and provide more channels for business development.
Although the showroom was designed to present it to showroom and e-commerce customers in America and Canada, these products also offer exciting opportunities with large “big-box” retailers in the “do it yourself” market. EGLO USA will reposition its range of sales colours in over 40 “Home Depot” stores this summer and add new products to its national SKU range in the second half of 2018. The new luminaires will also open doors at other multi- store chains, such as Costco and Lowe´s
The new vintage designs include darker surfaces (black matt, oil rubbed bronze), wider product families (chandeliers, downlights) and several sizes within families (especially for outdoor lighting). At the trade fair in June, EGLO USA will present five ceiling luminaire fans in several versions that will enable EGLO to enter a US market of 400 million dollars.
Company Update, UK
In April, the offices in EGLO UK were renovated to offer employees a better environment and make better use of the available space. Among other things, the unused attic, which over the years has become a storage room, was cleared out and converted into office space. In addition, a separate office for the accounting department and an attractive, modern staff area were created. Now the team also has an area where they can relax during lunchtime and during the breaks.
On the ground floor we have opened the room and thus extended it. Old tables were replaced by a more modern and efficient workplace to create a more pleasant area for the team. Unfortunately, no Tyrolean landscape can be seen when looking out the window, although the spring snow has briefly embellished the look.
WORLDWIDE NEWS - REVIEW
Opening ceremony & 25 years production, Hungary
In summer 2017 the new production hall and the new high-bay warehouse in Hungary were officially opened. This coincided exactly with the 25 th anniversary of the Hungarian location, which was celebrated with dignity. In the quarter of a century of the company's life, production has always been efficient, albeit to varying degrees, and the role of logistics has been constantly growing. › 1998 a semi-automatic high-bay warehouse › 2006 a fully automated high-bay warehouse › A newer production hall and a high-bay warehouse in 2016 The latest building complex was completed with an investment value of more than 13 million euros, for which the Hungarian government provided individual government support worth almost 2.1 million euros. With the 4-storey, altogether 14,000m 2 large production hall and with a 5,000m 2 large, fully automated high-bay warehouse, our production and logistics capacity has increased considerably. As a result, the total net area of the building complex of the Hungarian branch has risen to 55,000m 2 . EGLO Hungary Ltd. is currently the oldest and at the same time the only production site of the group in Europe and still the largest logistics centre in the region. The following milestones were set: › 1993 first production hall
At the Pásztó site, we produce 10,000 luminaires a day and deliver to more than 50 countries. We produce the right now fashionable vintage, wood lamella and textile lamps. In addition, 2,600 ceiling luminaires are manufactured every day. The investment has also enabled us to increase capacity in production and logistics. Our goal is to produce 20,000 luminaires a day. To achieve this, we have installed numerous new, modern production machines, as laser cutters, powder coating plant, wire bender etc. in the new building complex The new UV-3D printer can print on metal, glass, plastic, HDF and textile. The lamination of textile and plastic parts of textile lamps is also carried out in Hun- gary with newly purchased machines. An automatic storage technology was installed in the new high-bay warehouse, which is operated in its entirety by six automatic storage and retrieval machines. With the expansion, the storage capacity has increased to a total of 55,000 pallet spaces. This means the storage of 60,000m 3 of goods. In our buildings we not only store the luminaires manufactured in Pásztó and the raw materials necessary for production, but we also have the stock of all catalogue products.

Now a small insight into our production processes:
› The manufacturing process typically begins with metalworking. Here the production process starts with wire, sheet metal and tube or the various basic materials. › Then comes a coating process › This may be followed by painting by hand so that each lamp is unique. After assembly and packaging, the finished products arrive in the warehouse. › The workshop for tool production helps in the work of the different production departments. There is also a prototyping department in Hungary, which will produce sample luminaires for the forthcoming catalogue. At work, the luminaires are designed with the help of the “Solidworks” program – that is a 3D modeling. Our packaging and development department also produces the first samples of cartons with plotter machines, which are then also tested here. › In our modern test room for luminaires and light sources, photometric measurements (colour temperature, light intensity, luminous flux, radiation angle, etc.), service life tests (6,000 hours of operational testing), product type tests, full testing of the luminaires with regard to the function of the assembly technology, protection against electric shock, temperature and high humidity tests, vibration and stroboscopic effect tests are performed.
With regard to energy efficiency, the power supply of the new plant was supplemented by solar systems. Hungary doubled the number of employees before the start of the investment and now employs almost 800 people. The primary goal of the investment is to serve the European markets quickly. The increasing competition today is not necessarily influenced by the size of the company. Rather, the rapid reaction to the demands of the market is decisive. The group can assure this with the realisation of this investment in Hungary in Europe The opening ceremony of the new building complex was attended by the company owners, company managers, the State Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hungarian Government, deputies of the county and the city, the mayor of Pásztó, the head of office, the managers of the companies that took part in the construction, customers and employees. At the ceremony, the mayor awarded Ludwig Obwieser, the owner of the EGLO Group, the title “Honorary Mayor of the City of Pásztó” in recognition of the company's importance in the life of the city. Besides the festive cut of the ribbon and the tour of the new building, the guests were offered numerous colourful programs, dance, music and fine food.
